A Broken America…
There are some days where it all just feels too heavy. The news, the noise, the nonstop heartbreak, it’s everywhere. You wake up hoping for peace, only to be reminded that this country, the one we call home, is slowly falling apart at the hands of a corrupted government. And that’s not just some overused line or a political hot take. That’s real life. That’s our reality.
As a Black woman and a mother of Black children, I don’t get to pretend everything is okay. I don’t get to scroll past the headlines and forget. My sons and daughter are living targets for a system that has proven time and time again that their lives aren’t protected. That their worth is negotiable. That justice for us comes delayed, if it ever comes at all.
It’s terrifying. Sending our kids out into the world is no longer just about hoping they make good choices. It’s about hoping they make it home. Hoping they’re not in the wrong place at the wrong time. Hoping they don’t encounter the wrong officer, the wrong lawmaker, the wrong judge who’s already made up their mind before they even speak.
And meanwhile, the people in power, the ones in the White House and beyond, keep playing politics with our lives. Selfish. Cold. Disconnected. They don’t speak for us. They don’t fight for us. They argue, fund wars, chase votes, protect billionaires, and leave everyday families picking up the pieces, trying to stay afloat in a country that keeps proving it was never built with us in mind.
It’s not just disappointing. It’s devastating.
We teach our kids to be great, to work hard, to believe in dreams, but what do we tell them when this country doesn’t protect dreamers? How do we explain a justice system that rarely delivers justice?
We’re tired. But we’re still here.
And we will keep speaking up. We will keep protecting our babies. We will keep loving them loud, raising them strong, and preparing them for a world that doesn’t deserve them, but desperately needs them.
Because the truth is, they’re chasing greatness in a country trying to dim their light. And I’ll be damned if I let that light go out without a fight.
XOXO KAYE,
